Mandated Reporter Training

New York State is requiring Updated Mandated Reporter Training as part of the amended Social Services Law § 413. This law requires that mandated reporters, including those who have previously undergone mandated reporter training, complete the updated training curriculum by April 1, 2025. Here is a Summary Guide on Mandated Reporting if you want additional background information about the New York State Child Protective Services system.

While the April 2025 time frame seems like it is a long way away, we are encouraging all staff to complete this prior to the end of this school year so that nobody is scrambling next year and potentially having their license or certification impacted.

The training is a self-directed online training that you can access here: NYS Mandated Reporter Training.
  • From the link, click 'Register For Self-Directed Online Training'
  • Follow the directions for whether you do or do not have a Human Services Learning Center (HSLC) account (most do not have one)
  • You will need to create an account.
  • Once your account is created, log in to your HSLC account.
  • Click 'Go to My Training'
  • Click 'Mandated Reporter Web-Based On-line'

This training will take approximately 2 hours to complete. You can save your progress and return to the training at a later time if needed. You will take a brief Pre-Test, followed by a series of 9 modules with videos and questions, and then you will take a Post-Test on the same questions as the Pre-Test.

When completed, a certificate will be sent to your email address. Print the certificate and save it as a pdf as well.

You will have the option to send the certificate directly to the State at the "Office of Teaching". I would highly recommend this if you have a certification or license tied to New York State. You will need your license or certification number for this step so have it with you when you start the training.

This training is part of our professional responsibility to work in schools and work with children. This is a New York State requirement that you will need to take care of in order to stay employed in a school.
